About
Ocean2Outback
Ocean2Outback would not be a reality if it were not
for the efforts of the Mid West Communications Working
Group and funding under the Federal Government's Networking
the Nation scheme.
The Mid West Communications Working Group is made up
of representatives from the Mid
West Development Commission, City
of Geraldton, Shire
of Greenough, Central
West College of TAFE and interested businesses.
It is Chaired by Shire
of Mullewa
CEO Graham Wilks.
In 2000, the group made a submission to the Federal
Government's Networking
the Nation scheme for seed funding for a Mid West
internet portal. As we know today, that application
was successful and now Ocean2Outback is a reality.
Networking
the Nation, is the Commonwealth's five year, $250
million Regional Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund,
aimed at bridging the gap in telecommunications services,
access and costs between urban and non-urban Australia.
In so doing, it aims to assist the economic and social
development of regional, rural and remote Australia.
Networking
the Nation has funded other projects in the region
including online learning through the virtual campus
of the Central
West College of TAFE.
